Services
A United Way agency, Wheeling Health Right operates as a truly comprehensive primary care clinic. Health Right is a nurse managed clinic requiring all patients to receive initial health care and case management by advanced nurse practitioners and physician assistants. Upon agency referral, clients are eligible for charitable free services, including inpatient and outpatient care, at participating area hospitals and physician offices.
Health Care
Wheeling Health Right provides provides free comprehensive medical care and pharmaceuticals to people without health insurance or have Medicaid. We use the skills of volunteer physicians, dentists, nurses, pharmacists, and clerical workers to further our mission of helping those in need. Patients that qualify for services are treated free of charge.
Wheeling Health Right is the only Free Clinic in the Ohio Valley, recognized as one of the best free health clinics in the United States. Currently Wheeling health Right serves the medical and dental needs of over 27,000 people per year that are medically uninsured or underinsured.
Prescription & Medication
It is pointless to treat patients without providing the proper medicine, Wheeling Health Right strives to obtain the necessary funding to ensure its needy patients receive the medications they need. As of July 2009, Wheeling Health Right’s pharmacy became a licensed charitable clinic pharmacy, licensed by the West Virginia Board of Pharmacy. Wheeling Health Right is a closed retail pharmacy, only available to current clients.
The Board of Pharmacy has identified Wheeling Health Right’s pharmacy as a model charitable clinic pharmacy.
No controlled medications such as narcotics, sedatives, tranquilizers, pain medications, diet pills, or other potentially addictive medications are dispensed at the clinic.
Dental Services
Oral Health plays a critical role in general health and well-being. People that have access to routine dental care can reduce their risk of heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and cancer.
In 2016 Wheeling Health Right launched a Dental Clinic to help thousands of under-served people in the Northern Panhandle in partnership with the WV Association of Free & Charitable Clinics (WVAFFC).
Wheeling Health Right has been working for years to address the unmet needs of the community we serve. Since the ACA, including expanded Medicaid and the Marketplace, do not address adult dental care, it seemed natural for the clinic to move to address this unmet need and bring dental health care to the primary care setting in the Ohio Valley.
Local Dentists and WVU Dental Students provide dental services to Wheeling Health Right patients.
Mental Health
Mental Health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make healthy choices. Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood.
Wheeling Health Right offers community-based engagement & support for people with psychiatric illness. We receive referrals from local hospitals. Counseling services are available on site to individuals as well as to families.
